About/Contact

Greetings!

My name is Dr. A.J. Drenth. I am an INTP, freelancer, and licensed therapist practicing in the Midwest. While I compose most of the articles on this site, much of the material has stemmed from my collaboration with a brilliant INFJ friend and colleague of mine, who at this point wishes to remain unnamed. Without the aid of her ingenious insights and original mind, this site would not be what it is today.

I have now been researching issues related to personality and individual differences for over a decade. Like other personality junkies (there are a few of us out there), I am well-versed in a number of taxonomies. Though primarily focused on the Myers-Briggs, I have also found the Enneagram, as well as the leading academic model of personality, the Five-Factor Model/”The Big Five,” to be quite useful. Largely due to my personal interests and preferences, this blog has historically been geared more toward the Introverted and Intuitive personality types. I have already been working to expand my efforts, however, and intend to provide information on each of the sixteen types.

My overall objective with regard to typology and this blog is ultimately a practical one. Namely, I intend to discover and articulate truths that promote self-awareness, self-understanding, discernment, and personal growth.  For me, typology provides the ideal bridge between what one might consider the static or fixed psychological pole (i.e., we possess certain personality traits that tend to persist over time) and the dynamic pole (i.e., our ability to learn, grow, and develop within our type). In my view, the Myers-Briggs makes way for a near ideal balance of predefined structure and individual variation.

Knowing and understanding one’s type provides a sort of blueprint or road map for self-understanding and self-direction. If we have no idea who we are or what we should do, typology can provide insight on both fronts. In a world where absolutes are difficult to come by, typology offers a viable platform for clarifying questions related to values, meaning, vocation, relationships, personal growth, etc. Through this blog, I hope to provide stimulating and useful information that can assist you in your own search for personal clarity, insight, and direction. Feel free to forward your comments or grievances to dr.aj.drenth@gmail.com.

Cheers!

A.J.

P.S. I have significantly reduced my caseload and invested a great deal of time and money into this blog. Having opted to freely share the material on this site rather than reserve it for a book, donations are welcomed and appreciated.
